Broken down, a simple grid of vertical and horizontal illuminated lines, together with standard-issue clothes horses. Yet together, and afar, this is highly reminiscent of the workings of a subway map. Through mirrors and illumination, this space is given layers and depth beyond the materiality of its context.
super super indeed.

The act of a single line can never be undone; it can only be improved. There were no erasers allowed in my art class, for that, I am thankful. The gesture to conceive, create and dream could never be undone. Design is an evolving, revolving, exciting and enticing act. We see, we respond, we act, we think, we dream. Ultimately, the role of the designer is to inspire and engage, and to encourage the second line to be drawn, never disregarding the first. This is a conversation with lines.

come play...
A human net (by Numan) for adults to frolic in... I can hear (withheld) and slightly shameful adult 'I-shouldn't-be-this-excited-about-something-so-juvenile' excitement....
It's true, adult-sized fun. Embodied in a trapeze type, free-hanging (and forming) net, web-like and unstructured. a place to lose oneself. selfish indulgent loss. we all want this, in some hidden, some out loud, way.
I love that this exists, even if temporary in nature, ephemeral and even fantasias...
to dine for...
Further fuelling my fetish for the forceful... this Spanish cafe by MSB is my concrete epitome of considered completeness. The strong tensile lines of the steel bar and booths against the robustness of the heavy and heaving concrete walls and floors, is the perfect counterpart. Like the protective older brother, I can hear these two contriving.
I am once again, drawn to the beauty of the lines of this space; the way in which new lines are formed through natural elements; the sun, streaming, filigree-esquely, through the thin wire shutters, is effortless. And of course, the mindful treatment of the tactic, at the human scale. Very handsome.
I wouldn't mind a chai or a contemplative moment in this space...

The geometry of this intertwoven staircase, becoming the structural highlight of the movement within the residence, is strong, simple and yet its dynamism entrancing.

lego love
A photographic montage exhibition of sorts, lego sorts, explores the idea of 'habits (that) make us blind'. Concieved by spanish architecture studio, Espai MGR, the exhibition aims to explore the unexplored, the ignored and the dessolate; the voids in the islands we call our own behaviours.
Inspired by stumbling down the same unused streets and back alleys, the architects play with the idea of using fundamental building blocks (lego) as a primitive to display the possibilities, spatially and architecturally, in the pockets of abandonment in our own urban jungles.
Lego was undoubtably my primitive, it inspired and changed spaces and created new possibilities.
The merit and surprising obviousness of this, should be applauded.

theres not much i dont love about this mans beautiful craftmanship.
i love it all. the sculptural elements, the lines, the angular elements. love it.
after stumbling across his work, in a magazine, in the background of a feature on two fashion designers, in their home. i set about finding more about this work.
and to my surprise, the amount of work is limited. the artist quite unpublished and unexposed.
in a way, its still raw and fresh, and even more exciting.

clarkehopkinsclarke + john leung
The collaboration between John Leung and clarehopkinsclarke architects resulting in this isometric bookshelf is a fine example of design having both practical and illusive attributes.
The trickery created through this optical illusion of lines, represented through metal lines, plays with the idea of 3D elements and the affect of lines of the eye, and the viewers position with the object. The relativity of the object and the objectifier, are what determine the experience.
The power of the line, yet again, prevails and plays again.

out of the strong, came forth sweetness
Love this.
Inspired by the motion and form created through dripping treacle from a spoon, this art/interactive public seating scultural centre-piece ticks all the right boxes. Along with being black and slick (which for me, is more than enough) this monster stretches 22m high narrowing to a width of 25mm. Its inception is based on an actual motion, not through technology or a process, but a sighted motion, captured.

georgia love...
Jurgen mayer h. architects have came to the table serving up some very svelte forms and bold sweeping lines with their latest. The airport building in mestia, georgia is endeared to attract and boost tourism.

Sweeping lines all heading skyward, as a series of branches intertwine, offering a series of varied internal spaces and offering for an exciting airport experience.
Flying itself has become in a way a bit of a business-type function, something that just happens, robotic and cognitively. As a passenger, its not until the jet engines start to roar and the whole cabin is shaking, do you feel engaged with the enormity of what you’re about to embark upon. The airport part, the prelude if you will, to the excitement of opposing gravity, is so often about the building, and not the flying. Its about the suits having their business meetings in elusive and exclusive airline club lounges.
I feel this endeavour helps ground the meaning of it all, and starts to excite through the lines and forms.
This building is, I hope, the first of many to start to engage the passenger, visitor or employee… well before the diesel is churning and you’ve fastened you’re seatbelt.
This building is about flying. Point taken.
